Ghanaian singer-songwriter King Promise has released a new single called “Can’t Tame Us (Chelsea Anthem)”, presented as a love letter to Chelsea F.C. and its supporters across Africa. The track is part of the club’s “London to the World” campaign and will be added to playlists at fixtures throughout the season.
The music video, directed by Derrick Arthur, was filmed during the Rent Paid Football Tournament in Accra and at Nungua SDA Park, where Chelsea’s new home kit was showcased for the first time in Africa. King Promise, who founded the Rent Paid initiative to raise money for local charities such as the Nungua Orphanage, said the partnership is a “perfect combination” of his musical and football worlds.
Speaking to Billboard U.K., the 33-year-old recalled his early fandom, noting “I already had love for the Premier League,” and recalling the influence of Ghanaian midfielder Michael Essien. He described the collaboration as “It’s such a beautiful full-circle moment to even be in contact with this great club and do such amazing work together.”
The accompanying mini-documentary, shot at Stamford Bridge and at locations in Nungua, showcases Chelsea’s engagement with its African fanbase. King Promise added, “If I could start from Nungua and stand on the pitch at Stamford Bridge and have my music play in the stadium, just know that anything is possible.”
