Lyrical Joe credits reggae and personal life for his musical inspiration

Originally reported by MyJoyOnline (Kwame Dadzie)

Ghanaian rapper Joseph Gamor, known as Lyrical Joe, told Nikki Samonas on Joy Prime’s Changes that reggae music has been a major source of inspiration since his childhood. He highlighted the genre’s motivational lyrics and his admiration for Bob Marley, noting that he can spend weeks listening exclusively to reggae to spark ideas.

Beyond reggae, Lyrical Joe said his own life stories and personal experiences also drive his songwriting. He reflected on how reflecting on past challenges and looking forward to improvement fuels his creative process and keeps him motivated in the competitive music scene.

The artist also expressed respect for musicians who began their careers before him, considering their longevity as a sign of greater experience. He mentioned that this perspective influences his approach to his craft.

Lyrical Joe recently released ‘Warrior Sound’, a collaboration with Kenyan rapper Khaligraph Jones. He explained that after initially reaching out three years ago, the two finally connected when Khaligraph Jones responded positively, feeling the track matched his own message. The song was recorded quickly, with Lyrical Joe adding the chorus before sending it to the Kenyan artist.

The collaboration reflects Lyrical Joe’s belief that drawing from both musical influences and personal resilience can produce music that resonates across borders.
