Nana Asamoah releases five-language Highlife set titled Social Media Konkonsa

Originally reported by MyJoyOnline (Sarah Djosu)

Ghanaian Highlife musician Nana Asamoah has launched a five-part project called Social Media Konkonsa, offering the same song in Twi, Ga, Ewe, Hausa and Yoruba. The collection aims to showcase the cultural diversity of West Africa while keeping the core Highlife sound.

The title draws on the Ghanaian word "konkonsa", which refers to gossip and unsolicited commentary, and the songs use the phrase “Social Media” followed by a language-specific term – Sakplito in Ewe, Gulma in Hausa and Olofofo in Yoruba – to reflect local humour and storytelling styles.

Asamoah does not provide a literal translation for each version; instead, he adapts the lyrics to suit the expressions and narrative traditions of each language group. By including Twi, Ga and Ewe, the project remains rooted in Ghana’s linguistic landscape, while the Hausa and Yoruba versions broaden its appeal to audiences across Nigeria and neighbouring West African nations.

The five tracks are now available on major digital streaming platforms, with accompanying videos released via the artist’s official social media channels and YouTube. The initiative highlights Asamoah’s interest in merging contemporary digital themes with traditional Highlife storytelling.
